Imagine all your favorite legends coming to life right before your eyes: Jack Frost, The Sandman, etc. What if one night you met one of these legendary beings and he asked you for help? What would you do? That is what happened to Oliver one winters night and, here is where our story begins. Oliver Bascombe is a lawyer with the family law firm and is set to get married in the next few days. When a very bad snow storm blows in, bringing a hurt legend with it, who turns out to be Frost. Oliver can’t believe what he sees and it takes him even longer to understand what is going on. Frost must take Oliver across the Border between both our world and theirs which is called the Veil and, by doing so saves both their lives. Once Oliver crossed into the veil he became a lost one and was no longer able to go home to his world. Frost explains that all of the Borderkind are now being hunted and now that Oliver has helped Frost he will be hunted too. He also explains that the Borderkind are the Legendaries that can cross through the veil between both worlds at will. Oliver meets a host of legendaries and Borderkind some that he remembers the legends of and some he does not. They learn very quickly who they can and cannot trust. Oliver vows to help Frost find out who is hunting the Borderkind so that he may someday be able to stay or go home to his fiancĂ©, Julianna. But first he must get a pardon from both Kings of the veil before the hunters reach and kill him. While the detective that has been assigned to solve the case, Ted Haliwell, and Julianna, Oliver’s fiancĂ© search for him they stumble onto the veil and become two of the lost as well. They must now find a way to follow Oliver and his new friends and find out what is going on.
Christopher Golden does and excellent job of weaving this legendary tale of myth, magic, wonder and excitement. Golden did a wonderful job of describing each char, down to every last detail, including what Frost looks like. You will be able to picture him in your mind completely right down to the last icicle and its tinkle. Golden helps to create a wonderful mythological world in your mind that you will want to daydream in. Myth Hunters was a real page turner and is definite keeper.
As he ran for the door a rush of wind rushed past him, nearly knocking him over again, and blew it shut.
Oliver stood unmoving in the middle of the parlor, staring at the door. There had been a purpose behind the wind. He was not alone. The storm was here, but it was more than just a storm.
He turned slowly. The vortex in front of the dark fireplace was changing, taking shape. Through the snow churning within that whirlwind, Oliver could see a figure, the same as he had seen outside moments ago. A man or so it seemed, made from ice, his body all perilously sharp edges, dagger fingers, and hair that swung and tinkled musically like crystal chandelier.
