Life Without Raine

Michele Bardsley gives us another passionate and steamy story in Life Without Raine. It is a captivating story about a gentleman that, finds out something bad is going to happen to his new wife. Not wanting that to happen to her he goes to her grandmother who also happens to be a witch. She weaves a spell of betrayers and lovers until bonds are broken and justice is served. So things go on for Eight hundred years until Ms. Raine Sinclair receives a letter, letting her know that she had inherited a castle. The castle is in England and she must come and claim her inheritance before May 12th. Michael Conners her handsome host has revealed to her that there is a small task that must be preformed before she can claim the castle and all in it. But what he has not told her is that he believes her to be the long lost Raine. Nor has he told her that he is Connor from the story of her ancestors either. Raine gets the feeling that the housekeeper Mrs. Welter doesn’t like her very much may not want her there, and also feels she has a severe case of jetlag, as she keeps loosing parts of her days with her memory. She also feels that something is not on the up and up about Mrs. Welters daughter Fiona either. Michael shows Raine the picture of her ancestor and Connor and she sees that Raine could almost be her twin and agrees as well, and again fades off losing part of her memory. Something does keep telling her to watch out for Michael that something bad is going to happen to him.

Michele Bardsley weaves a very suspenseful and romantic story in a Night Without Raine. It is peppered with her usual medieval steamy romance with a bit of suspense and mystery thrown in for good measure. Bardsley never ceases to amaze or astound with each story and you will not be disappointed with this book either. This is definitely another for the keeper shelves.

Night Rising

Chris Marie Green brings to light a new twist in the vampire genre with Night Rising. Dawn Madison is called back to Tinsel town to help search for her father who has recently gone missing while investigating a case. He has been investigating a bizarre sighting of a child star named Robby that was supposed to have been dead for a while, but has been recently seen in a newly filmed movie. While working with her fathers co-workers Kiko, and Breisi, Dawn learns that vampires are not all just myth and legend. Their boss is never seen only heard and, teaches her how to use her mind to keep people out that she doesn’t want in. She also learns that Kiko has had a vision concerning her and the vampires. They get a tip from an actress named Klara, she was a co-worker of Robby’s, who lets them in on bit of information on Robby and his father and how they acted on the set and etc. with other people. They were less than private with their advances to people about things that should be kept private. There is another PI roaming around named Matt Lonigan the firm can’t figure out if he is on the up and up or if he is working for the vamps as a servant. But he has an eye for Dawn and keeps giving her information that makes sense to her. The vampires have created a world for themselves they call the Underground it is ruled by the Master and his Second in command Sorin. They also will bring in any person that would wish to reinvent themselves years later for a price. So as was the case with singer Tamsin Greene. Klara winds up dead a few days later after giving the information about Robby and his father. When Dawn and Kiko go to the Bava Bar to see if they can get a bit more information about Robby they run into Robby himself the vampire version. There is a bit of a tussle and Kiko is hurt badly luckily Dawn is trained in taking falls and draws Robby away from Kiko and talks him into going to see his mother. Kiko is sent to the hospital and Dawn goes with Breisi to see Robby’s mother to see if they can help Robby to be at peace finally.

Chris Marie Green shows us that vamps are not all myth and legend in Night Rising. Night Rising was a riveting attention getter and one that I could not put down easily. Being the vampire fan that I am I was glad to see the new twists to the vampire genre that were added instead of the age old kill’em with sun and stake’em through the heart type scenes. Green takes it a step further with each type of vamp that she introduces with each turn of the page. I will definitely want to read anything else that Chris Marie Green writes.

He makes his way to the party that she is going to be at and changes to his human form. When Rejar confronts Lilac at the party as Prince Nickolai Azov, she turns away from him acting as if he is not even there. Rejar being the regal he is just laughs which makes Lilac even madder. Thanks to good ole’ Aunt Whumples he still gets his dance with Lilac but gets a slap for his disparaging remarks in return. Lilac does think it odd he has the same eyes as her cat. Rejar comes to her in a again in a dream which she doesn’t like at all wondering why the Prince is in her dreams and it is in this dream where he senses that she is a virgin and vows he will be his mate. He asks Aunt Whumples for her hand in marriage she states it would be up to Lilac and he Rejar states he has compromised her Lilac firmly states she has not but he reveals he knows about a birthmark shaped like a kitten on her thigh. Yaniff sends Traed after Rejar stating that he is a danger to his own heart. Lilac still is opposed to the marriage but there is nothing she can do about it now that Rejar has revealed the birthmark. Her Aunt has agreed for her to get married to Prince Azov. Rejar still feels restless after he gets married, He must figure out what is causing him to be restless. Traed shows up and things get even more confusing to Lilac and to Aunt Whumples. What will be next for Rejar and Lilac and the family? One can only guess what the future will hold.

Dara Joy makes an exciting next in line of the Matrix of Destiny series and is a real page turner you will find yourself not wanting to put it down. This will definitely be a keeper on my shelf.

Knight of A Trillion Stars

Deana Jones thought maybe this day couldn’t get worse, since she lost her job but then things started spiraling down hill from there bad weather and all. When she thinks she is just about to seek solitude at home, a wreck blocks her car in. She must wait for the two cars blocking hers to be removed before she can go home. Hopefully she can find some solace in a junk shop across the street until the cars can be removed, and at least it has her out of the rain for a bit. While she is looking around something feels as if it is drawing her to look in this one box. In the box she finds an old necklace that looks antique with a dark stone in it. She buys it takes it home, cleans it up and decides to take it on a trip she has planned to a science fiction convention that weekend. As she walks back out into her living room she is scared half out of her wits by a man sitting in strange looking clothes on her couch. Here is, were her story begins, the man is Lorgin ta’al Krue from another universe. He is on a quest that he will not divulge to her at this time, but vows to protect her because he feels she needs protecting. When she turns on the microwave things really get interesting because he takes out something looking like a light saber and demolishes it, thinking the microwave is attacking her. She thinks that her friends that are meeting her at the convention have sent him as a joke. Lorgin won’t leave her side which Deana finds quite irritating and forcing her to take him on the trip with her. Where after dinner he sees the necklace that she bought at the junk shop on her and realizing what it is he makes his oath to her and asks for and oath in return she still thinking it is some kind of joke agrees. Once they are back in the hotel room he opens a portal and sweeps her off to his universe. Where she is totally taken aback and starts learning things may not always be what they appear to be. Lorgin takes her for much more than she thinks she and he refuses to believe her in this matter. She helps Lorgin to see things in his world that he would not see without a females touch otherwise.

Dara Joy has woven a wonderful futuristic romantic tale between these two star-crossed lovers. I look forward to reading more of her books. She takes you on a delightful journey through worlds that you never thought possible. When you finish reading this book you will want to read more.

Magic is a part of Kate Daniels everyday life during the time of the day when magic makes technology go awry, cars won’t start and guns don’t want to fire. All sorts of magical things start to appear and rouge mages are able to use their magic. But when technology is able to work again Kate is there to clean up the problems that magic has left behind. She is a mercenary of sorts that helps take care of all sorts of paranormal problems. Greg Feldman was Kate’s guardian and the Knight-diviner. He has been taking care of her since her parents died. When Greg is murdered she takes on the case personally which almost proves to be more than she can handle. Each sect blames the other for a group of murders. Greg’s murder could be connected with these murders as well. Thrust into a tug of war like power struggle between the Masters of the dead and the Pack, both sides looking to Kate for answers. She starts to feel like it is a bit over her head but she likes it that way and always has. When she starts really investigating Greg’s murder things get even deeper and deeper. She also stumbles onto a guy that could be Mr. Right, but she doesn’t quite know how to handle Crest. The murders start to emulate an old case but could it be that this the same type of case again? She must look to people that she doesn’t really trust for help to solve the case.

Ilona Andrews weaves a suspenseful page-turner that you won’t want to put down. I found my self so absorbed in this book that it was finished before I knew it. She really knows how to keep your attention I will definitely be buying the sequel to this book or anything else she puts out it was a compelling read.

" I rummaged through Greg’s desk drawer for a mirror. Every self-respecting mage had a mirror close to hand. Too many spells required it. Greg’s was a rectangle set in a plain wooden frame. I caught my image in it and almost dropped the rag. My hair glowed. It radiated a weak burgundy luminescence, which shifted when I ran my hands through it, as if each individual strand of hair was coated in fluorescent paint. I shook my head, but the radiance didn’t dim. Growling at it didn’t help either, and I didn’t have the faintest idea how to get rid of it."

"I hid in the farthest corner of the room, invisible from the door, and opened the file. If you can’t make it go away wait it out."
